Funding Wexford
Along with improved integration and better delivery of services, RAPID areas have benefited from additional funding resources over the past 8 years. These include in particular national funding grants/schemes and RAPID specific funding lines as part of the commitment by government to improve investment into RAPID areas and support development.
Some of the significant national funding lines, which prioritise applications from RAPID areas include :-
- Sports Capital Fund
- National Childcare Investment Programme
- The Dormant Accounts Fund
In 2004 a funding mechanism, RAPID Leverage Fund, was introduced which supports small-scale local actions through co-funding with other Departments/Local Agencies. It allows many small-scale actions to be dealt with more effectively at local level.
The Wexford RAPID Area has benefited from the following funding lines to date:
- Local Authority Estate Enhancement Scheme Co-Fund
- Local Authority Traffic Calming Measures Co-Fund
- Health Sector Co-Fund
- Playground Scheme
- Sports Capital Top-Up funding
In 2008, Wexford town was designated under the Young Peoples Facilities and Services Fund, as part of the National Drugs Strategy, funded through the HSE. This funding is administered by the County Wexford VEC at local level and has resulted in approximately €200,000 of capital and programme support to Wexford town projects to date.
